The Pain Pills have some advantages and disadvantages when compared to the first aid kit. Pills take up the secondary health slot in left 4 dead. depending on the situation a quick temperary fix will keep you alive longer than a slow but rewarding health kit. While each have their own respective uses the pills shines in speed.
- Pills restore temperay health instead of regular health
- Pills can be used nearly instantanously compared to the slowly charging meter of a first aid kit.
- Pills restore only 50 temp. health instead of 80% health
Healing Efficiently
In left 4 dead you will eventually take some damage and become incapacitated or worse. This in inevitable however you have healing items to regain lost life. You can only carry one primary healing item and one secondary. both have very different advantages, for example the first aid kit heals 80% of perment health vs. pain pills restore 50 tempory health that will deplete over a period of time. The first aid kit clearly wins as far as rewards are concerned. However pain pills have little to no time to take and can be taken in most dangerous situations without having to slow down at all or spend a few moments of charging like the health kit where you can take no other actions until it is completed or interrupted. Another area should be mentioned when covering health movement. The movement of a survivor is directly associated with remaining health. Most intelligent players if they are low in health will heal before engaging a Tank so they can escape him more easily. The tank is faster than a survivor with less than 50 total health. However the survivor has a minor movement advantage when above 50 health. In expert mode effective judgement calls considering when to "heal" become far more important than other difficulties.
