Ladies and gentlemen, there has been confirmed reports of hacking and/or password theft of Steam accounts. The situations encountered have begun as a "friend" of a Steam user sending a message via Steam chat in regards to a server sponsorship or something similar, and the "friend" needs the Steam user's support to get the sponsorship, followed by a link that may seem fairly legit. Do not, under any circumstances, even go to the site. We are currently not sure if there are malicious programs running in the background of the website that steal the visitor's password, or if there is a login system that then steals the account information. The website will look very, very close to the real steampowered.com website, and is difficult to distinguish except by the URL address, which may also be close to the real Valve website.
Please exercise caution when chatting with an unfamiliar user, and certainly do not make it easier for this robber to get access to your Steam account. Protect your account information and password.
Happy holidays, and happy gaming to all.
